UK Working Visa - Sector Based Scheme (SBS) Permits

The Sector Based Scheme (SBS) allows workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to enter the United Kingdom to take short-term or casual jobs. Your UK employer must apply for this work permit for you before you travel to the United Kingdom.

You must be between 18-30 years old and the permit is only granted for 1 year after which you must return to your country of residence and stay for a further 2 months if your employer wishes to apply for another SBS permit.

  • This work is low skilled and jobs are only available in these sectors:
  • The food manufacturing industries (meat and fish processing and mushroom production only).

The quota permits for Food Manufacturing (Fish) and (Meat) has now reached its limit. Consequently no new first applications submitted after midnight 31st October 2006 will be considered.

While no new applications will be accepted, extension applications up to a maximum of 12 months, and change of employment applications for existing permit holders can still be submitted for consideration.
